ANI: Valentin Nicolau under conflict of interests

The National Integrity Agency (ANI) has accused Valentin Nicolau, Public Television Director, of being in incompatibility because he was simultaneously a member of the Board of Directors of SRTv and the administrator and director of Nemira publishing house between June 20, 2012 and December 12, 2013. In turn, Nicolau has stated he does not believe there was a conflict of interest, and claimed ANI did not inform him of the incompatibility charge.
“There were members of the Board of Directors who worked for other televisions, and it was not a problem. Some were in charge of TVR productions while being members of the television’s Board of Directors. Was that not also a conflict of interest? What conflict of interest is there between the job of an editor who works with books and a job in television?” Valentin Nicolau said, as cited by Mediafax.
ANI has also found that six former or current local appointees in Neamt, Bacau, Cluj, Brasov, Teleorman, and Constanta, and a public clerk with the County Directorate for Sports and Youth of Suceva were also under conflict of interest. The same charge was brought against the mayor of a locality in Mehedinti County who presumably appointed his son entry-level advisor for the town hall’s Emergency Situations Service, and assigned him to take part in operations related to the 2012 local elections.
