The Grand Prix 2014 of the 42nd edition of the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions went to a Swiss company for a technology developed by a team of Romanians researchers.
The Romanian Education Ministry reports that the award-winning OnAirCamera technology was developed at the Eastern-European Centre for Interdisciplinary Applied Research headed by the grand prix winner of the 2009 and 2013 editions of the exhibition Mircea Tudor.
Bought by the Swiss company, including the patent rights, the technology is for owners of smart phones and it is made up of a system of video cameras able to follow the user’s movements in various contexts, recognize them and rapidly mount them as a customized film instantaneously delivered to the subscriber.
Romanian car engineer Corneliu Birtok-Baneasa won the gold medal and was awarded a prize by the Hong Kong delegation at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions for an air-transfer device that diminishes truck and bus fuel consumption by over 5 percent, under normal traffic conditions. The invention designed by the engineer from Deva was tested over a period of three years on trucks owned by a company in Deva.
Romanian researchers and inventors also won 17 special prizes, 18 gold medals, eight silver medals and four bronze medals.
