The towboat transporting six barges of iron ores to Austria caught on fire late Friday on the Danube – Black Sea Canal and sank the day after, following operations to extinguish the fire that broke out again due to strong wind, Mediafax informs. The seven sailors on board – two Romanians and five Hungarians – were taken to shore, uninjured. Several barges from Galati will help bring the towboat to surface in an operation expected to last one week. Preliminary investigations show the fire was caused by an installation that short-circuited.
