Continental invests EUR 9.5 M in Timisoara factory

German group Continental will invest EUR 9.5 M in a technical solution for the reduction of odor perception at its tire production facility of Timisoara, with the project due for completion before the end of next year, the company announced. The investment is part of the long-term social responsibility strategy of the company and the testing of the equipment began in November 2013. The operating principle of the technical solution consists in an alternative current that generates a plasma field which decomposes the air oxygen and water in oxygen radicals (active oxygen). This creates an oxidizing reaction at the contact with the air that results from the manufacturing process of tires, which neutralizes the odorant molecules. Moreover, the company will also install a piece of equipment that will destroy the volatile compounds which appear in the manufacturing process by oxidizing them at high temperature. During more than 13 years of operations in Romania, Continental Anvelope Timisoara invested over EUR 340 M and created more than 2,100 jobs.
