‘For the citizens of Roma ethnicity in Romania and not only for them, today is an important day. Forty-three years ago, on April 8, during the first International Roma Congress that was held in London, they adopted the International Roma Day. Considerable efforts have been made for people of Roma ethnicity to be able to assert their ethnicity anywhere and in any context with dignity and pride,’ reads a Prime Minister’s message to the Roma community released on Tuesday. “Today I would like to pay homage to every Roma child who makes the effort to go to school, to every Roma mother who takes her children to the educational system and contributes in her own way to the improvement of their lives, to every artist that, through his or her work, brings closer to us the values of this ethnic group (…) To all these people and to all Romanian citizens of Roma ethnicity, Many happy returns of the day!’ says the Premier in his message.
