A Yellow Code weather alert for rain and snowfall has been issued by the National Meteorology Administration (ANM) for 12 counties in northern, central, and eastern Romania between Friday, 3.00 p.m. and Saturday, 8.00 a.m. The weather alert specifically targets the counties Bistrita-Nasaud, Maramures, Mures, Harghita, Covasna, Brasov, Neamt, Botosani, Suceva, Iasi, Bacau, and Vrancea. ANM has announced that rain will continue in the eastern half of the country within the timeframe mentioned, and considerable quantities of water of 25 up to 35 l/square meter will accumulate in northern Moldova. Snowfall will occur in mountainous regions, particularly in the Eastern Carpathians, and layers of snow will form. Rain occurred particularly in the east and southeast of Romania on Thursday and in the first half of Thursday night.
It has already snowed in Harghita County and road workers have intervened with anti-skid material. Temperatures have dropped by more than ten degrees in the last 24 hours, and the layer of snow on DN 13B, at Bucin Pass, is three centimeters high. On Wednesday night, Harghita Bai experienced snowfall for the third time in the last week, and temperatures have dropped by 11 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours. “The maximum temperature in multiple localities in Harghita – Miercurea Ciuc, Toplita, and Joseni – was 20 degrees Celsius yesterday (editor’s note – Wednesday). The maximum temperature forecast for today (editor’s note – Thursday) is 8 to 9 degrees Celsius, which means it will be at least 10 degrees lower,” Florin Borz, on-site meteorologist at the Targu Mures Regional Meteorology Center, stated, as cited by Mediafax. According to the cited source, the weather will continue to be cold in the near future, with rain turning into sleet and snowfall in mountainous regions.
