Biggest bison farm in Europe opens in Cluj

The biggest bison farm in Europe, which houses almost 300 animals and covers over 500 hectares, was inaugurated on Friday in Recea Cristur commune, Cluj County, following an investment of EUR 1.5 M, Mediafax informs. The investment was made by the BT Bison Ranch owned by German and Austrian businessmen. According to farm manager Constantin Jeican, the farm currently has 300 bisons brought in from Denmark, Germany, France, Austria and Belgium. The animals are raised for meat, which will be exported to Western European countries, to Germany in particular. “The bisons are raised for meat, which will be exported to Western European countries, to Germany in particular because there is a very high demand there. We will try to sell bison meat in Romania too,” the farm manager stated. The farm has approximately 30 employees from Cluj County’s Taga, Recea Cristur and Panticeu communes.
