More than 40 cruise liners to arrive in Constanta

More than 40 cruise ships with American and German tourists meant to sail to Odessa this year will avoid the Ukrainian harbour due to tensions in the region and will replace it with Constanta Port.
The first cruiser is Artania with 1,051 American tourists that went into Constanta Port on Sunday, April 20 at 8 am and remained there till the evening. It came from Varna and went for Istanbul, according to Gheorghe Marginean, owner of Karpaten Turism agency, ensuring services in Romania for US passengers. “Odessa was removed from the cruising schedule for 40 liners with American and German tourists, who announced they will land at the closest sea harbour, namely Constanta. Karpaten will deal with the services provided for 37 of them, while the cruisers will remain in Constanta. Considering that the ships have an average of a thousand tourists on board, Romania gains 40,000 tourists from this unfortunate political context,” added Marginean. The foreign tourists chose, during the day while their liner was in the harbour, between a trip to Bucharest, a trip in the Danube Delta, a trip to Histria or a tour of the city of Constanta, with Murfatlar wine-tasting. Marginean estimates the ground services on Romania of EUR 100 per passenger, meaning that the 40,000 tourists who will come to Constanta instead of Odessa will spend four million euros in Romania.
Apart from the cruiser liners to come to Romania due to the political situation in Ukraine, Constanta is part of the normal route of 70 ships.
