Daniel Constantin on Saturday was re-elected chairman of the Conservative Party (PC), minor at rule. Daniel Constantin was re-elected by 2,695 ayes. Parliamentarian Damian Florea was elected PC secretary general; Senator Vasile Nistor was elected executive chairman; while Bucharest District 4 Mayor Cristian Popescu ‘Piedone’ was elected PC first deputy chairman. The PC deputy chairs will be elected most probably this June, by the party’s National Council. Attending the extraordinary convention of the PC Congress were also PC honorary chairman Dan Voiculescu, national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), major at rule, Victor Ponta, and national leader of the National Union for Romania’s Progress (UNPR), minor at rule, Gabriel Oprea.
The target of re-elected PC leader was to criticize liberals and their chairman Crin Antonescu, as Daniel Constantin said PNL “remained prisoner to a small group of interests around Crin Antonescu,” and PC message to the local PNL leaders is that there is an opening in USL rebuild if the liberals give up their attitude that led to the break of the Union. “PNL, I regret to say it, remained the prisoner of a small group of interests around Crin Antonescu. This small group, led by frustrations, permanently promoted a way to ruling led towards the undermining of the Government, including their own ministers in the Cabinet,” said Constantin, at the party congress. Prime Minister Victor Ponta, PSD chairman, said during PC congress: “I envy Dan Voiculescu. Basescu hates him more,” for which he received applause from those present. PC founding chairman, present at the event, broke into laughter at the PM statement.
