Teodorovici: More than EUR 3 bn for SMEs in 2014-2020 programming period

More than EUR 3 billion were allocated for supporting the activity of the SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises), according to the proposal for a partnership agreement sent to the European Commission in late March, reads a press release. Minister Teodorovici on Friday attended the Informal Meeting of EU Ministers Responsible for the Cohesion Policy, which was organized by the Greek presidency in Athens. The main subjects of the meeting were the preparations for using the European funds allocated to the member states for 2014-2020, with emphasis on the urban development and on supporting the SME activity.
‘In the 2014-2020 programming period, more than three billion euros are allocated to support the activity of the SMEs, in keeping with the proposal for a partnership agreement sent to the European Commission in late March. The SME projects will be financed through the Regional Operational Programme, the Operational Programme Competitiveness, the National Programme for Rural Development, but also through the Operational Programme for Fisheries. We have also planned several kinds of activities, which are going to support indirectly the activity of the companies in this category. We pay special attention to supporting the activity of the SMEs when analyses show that in Romania there are only 20 SMEs for every thousand people. A number that is three times smaller than the average of the EU,’ said Teodorovici.
The informal ministerial meeting was organized in order to facilitate the meeting of all ministers responsible for the cohesion policy in the member states, the talks concentrating on the fields that refer to the growth potential, the creation of new jobs, the actions meant for the economic, social and territorial promotion, in keeping with the Europe 2020 Strategy, meaning the revitalization of the European economy.
