MoD budget to be supplemented by 0.2 pc of GDP

Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced on Monday that, amid the Ukraine crisis, the budget for the Ministry of National Defence (MoD) will be supplemented by 0.2 percent of the GDP. ‘We will supplement the budget of the Ministry of National Defence. The Minister for Finance and the Minister for Budget have succeeded, they have discussed both at level of the IMF and the European Commission and we will supplement by 0.2 percent of the GDP, around RON 700 M, this year’s budget for the Ministry of National Defence so that investments in modernizing military capabilities be done immediately. On one hand, the Romanian Army will have technologically improved equipment, and on the other hand these works will be done especially in factories in Romania,’ said Ponta, quoted by Agerpres.
The Premier added that it is not a matter of acquisitions, but of modernizing technical capabilities of the Romanian Army, for which the Government has obtained permission to supplement the expenditure ceiling of the MoD by RON 700 M.
