A pantomime, dance, music, and martial arts show put on by the Romanian actors of the ‘Passe-Partout’ theatre company, resident company of the National Theatre in Bucharest, is set to take place on May 9 in Berlin, on the occasion of the celebrations held for Europe Day, on the stage in Pariser Platz with the Brandenburg Gate as the backdrop, a press release of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Berlin informs. The ‘Passe-Partout’ troop, founded and currently led by actor Dan Puric, staging’ were highly successful on Romanian and foreign stages through their profound artistic message. The different moments that will be presented in Berlin by the four members of the company represent a metaphoric and critical commentary on contemporary society. Furthermore, a series of representative figures in Romanian folklore will be represented (Ileana Cosanzeana – in Romanian mythology she is a fair princess and represents feminine beauty, the Zmeu – antagonist figure of extraordinary strength, Fat-Frumos – figure mostly equivalent to Prince Charming, and the Woods – usually used as a backdrop for folk tales, to be personified in this case), all to be understood by the general foreign public through means of scenic representation. The event is organized by ICR Berlin together with the Bureau of the European Commission in Berlin, being part of the larger series of events dedicated to marking Europe Day put together by the EU countries’ representatives in Germany’s capital. The event will be attended by the representatives of Greece, Slovakia, Spain, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Poland and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Furthermore, in the spaces reserved for the event national promotional stands are to be placed, Romania’s Embassy in Berlin together with the Tourism Bureau and ICR Berlin will be in charge of Romania’s presentation and promotional stand.
