PDL demands the PM’s resignation

The Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) reiterates the demand that PM Victor Ponta should resign from office because of the “Duicu case,” the leader of PDL deputies, Tinel Gheorghe said Wednesday. “This is the most serious case of high-level corruption after 1989! (…)  Victor Ponta inherited from Adrian Nastase the bad habits and attitudes of Adrian Nastase! We reiterate the request that Victor Ponta resigns from office”, Tinel Gheorghe stated in a press conference. He reminded that PDL first demanded Ponta’s resignation on April 9, following the Duicu case, after the media made public the transcript of a phone conversation in which Duicu was peddling influence from the cabinet of the prime minister.
The president of the Mehedinti County Council, Adrian Duicu, together with Stefan Ponea and Constantin Popescu were remanded on April 4, under a warrant issued by the Bucharest Court of Appeals, at the proposal of DNA. Anticorruption prosecutors launched a criminal probe against Adrian Duicu for peddling influence, buying influence, instigation to bribe giving, allowing the access of unauthorised persons to classified information, instigation to misuse of authority and two counts of using influence and authority by a person which holds a leading position in a political party, in view of obtaining undeserved benefits for another.
