The CEO and other 40 managers of Omniasig insurance company are suspected by investigators of involvement in forging about a million insurance policies, as the damages to the budget amounts to several millions RON, legal sources told Mediafax on Wednesday.
The police estimate that “several trucks full of papers” will be taken from Omniasig offices following the investigations on Wednesday, as the directors of the company are to be heard in the days to come.
The prosecutors of the Criminal Investigation Section are investigating in a criminal case regarding suspicions around several people who allegedly did malfeasance of office and intellectual fraud, for which the criminal investigation has been started, reads a press release of the Prosecutor’s Office with the High Court of Cassation and Justice. According to the quoted source, the prosecutors made 49 simultaneous searches on Wednesday at central offices and local branches of an insurance company in Bucharest and all counties in Romania. About one hundred legal police officers from the Fraud Investigation Directorate were part of the action, with the technical and intelligence support of the Romanian Intelligence Service.
The only target of the investigations made by the Prosecutor’s Office of the High Court of Cassation and Justice at Omniasig is the situation of the insurance house policies issued by the company in the second half of 2013, announced the insurer on Wednesday in a press release.
“Our company will fully cooperate and will make available to authorities all documents and information requested. In the same time, we have started an internal investigation to clear up this situation,” reads the release.
