NATO Secretary General Rasmussen, at Bucharest

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen paid an official visit to Romania, May 15-16, NATO reported on its website, Agerpres reports. Part of the visit, Rasmussen is scheduled to meet Romania’s President Traian Basescu, Prime Minister Victor Ponta, Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean and Defence Minister Mircea Dusa. Today, Rasmussen will hold a joint press conference with President Basescu.
Rasmussen told a security conference in Slovakia on Thursday that NATO members in Central and Eastern Europe need to beef up defence spending after cutting it for the past five years while Russia has sharply increased its military budget.
