360 train engines to be built by Electroputere Craiova for export

Electroputere VFU Craiova company, member of Grampet Group, will build 360 train engines over the next ten years in partnership with Caterpillar Inc., the major engine maker in the US, reports a press release. The production cost has not been revealed yet. The engines made at Craiova will be sold abroad.
“The engine is called Terra Nova and is part of the first three projects of Caterpillar. In fact, a production line was made at Electroputere VFU Craiova for these engines which are designed to be used on railroads with narrow rails, medium rails and up to large rails. It is a versatile engine which can be used anywhere in the world. It is an engine of the future which meets all the stage 3B requirements for pollution emissions which is still not mandatory in the EU,” said Gratian Calin, vice-chairman of Grampet Group. The project of the new manoeuvre engine includes a lot of technical innovations which were developed together with the experts in the US.
It is a major project for Caterpillar and is part of the revitalization of engine production in the area,” said Allen Helton, manager within the US company on occasion of launching the new engine.
Caterpillar is the major Diesel engine maker in the world, more than 85 years of experience and world representation, which reported a turnover of USD 66 billion in 2012 with more than 125,000 employees.
