Q1 2014, best start in the last 4 years for technical consumer goods market

Technical Consumer Goods (TCG) market appreciated by 7.9 percent in Q1 2014 in Romania, compared to the same quarter of 2013, reaching a value of EUR 386 million. In terms of value, Q1 2014 was the biggest first quarter in the last 4 years, according to the newest GfK report.
The highest increase in value (32.9 percent) was generated by the Telecommunication sector which reached EUR 117 million and was also the biggest sector in this quarter. The smartphones segment still registered considerable double-digit growth while mobilephones losteven more ground. Q1 2014 saw a total market increase of 10.9 percent for the Major Domestic Appliances (MDA) sector. Of course, in terms of market volume this quarter is below Q1 2012, but in terms of market value, Q1 2014 outperformed the previous four years’ first quarters.
The Small Domestic Appliances sector registered yet another quarter of increase, showing a 7.9 percent growth rate in the first quarter of 2014 compared with Q1 2013. The first quarter of 2014 brought an increase of 3.9 percent in the Consumer Electronics sector. Total sales reached a value of EUR 61 million. For the IT sector, Q1 2014 brought a decrease of 6.2 percent, amounting to EUR 97 million, compared to Q1 2013. Sales of printers, multifunctionals and consumables registered a decrease of 8 percent in Q1 2014 and the photographic market continued its decline.
