Leader of PDL Timis and two democratic-liberal deputies, under DNA investigation

Chairman of PDL Timis Constantin Ostaficiuc, former leader of County Council, leader of PDL Timisoara, deputy Cornel Samartinean, former director of Timisoara Airport and PDL deputy Alin Popoviciu are under criminal investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) in a case regarding renting some areas at the airport. According to a press release sent by DNA on Friday and quoted by Mediafax, the anti-corruption prosecutors at Timisoara Service ordered the beginning of the criminal investigation of deputy Cornel Mircea Samartinean who was at the time of the deeds director of the International Airport “Traian Vuia” of Timisoara for malfeasance of office and conflict of interests, also deputy Alin Augustin Florin Popoviciu and Constantin Ostaficiuc, who was then chairman of Timis County Council, and managers of some companies, for instigation to malfeasance of office.
The prosecutors also ordered the extension of the criminal investigation for Marius Florin Mezin, trade manager of Timisoara Airport at that time, for malfeasance of office, Tiberiu Gheorghe Penescu and Lucian Blaga, managers of some companies, for false statements. “Through the criminal activities run by these government clerks, with the direct aid of the people who were actually running the company that was abusively declared winner of the fake bidding, the International Airport Traian Vuia in Timisoara suffered damages of RON 239,570.3,” claim the DNA prosecutors. Constantin Ostaficiuc, Cornel Samartinean and Alin Popoviciu were summoned on Friday at DNA offices to be heard and to be announced they are under investigation. Upon entering and exiting the hearings, the three PDL leaders from Timis refused to make any statement for the journalists.
