FM Corlatean: No xenophobic attitude in Portugal

In Portugal there is no xenophobic attitude toward Romanians and no violation of their rights like in other Western European countries, Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean stated on Sunday on the Day of Romanians in Portugal, saluting the fact that the event was celebrated alongside Republic of Moldova citizens. At the same time, the Foreign Minister thanked the Portuguese authorities for the support and care shown to Romanians in Portugal. “We are Latin countries, we are friendly countries and here, maybe unlike in other parts of Western Europe, we do not have those problems (…) as xenophobic attitude, the violation of the rights of Romanians who are European citizens,” Corlatean emphasized.
Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean on Sunday also met with Portugal’s High Commissioner for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue, Rosario Farmhouse, as part of his visit to Portugal. Corlatean stressed that the intercultural dialogue is a necessary exercise and of high relevance for the assertion of a marked identity profile of the Romanian communities in Portugal, while Farmhouse expressed Portugal’s willingness to deepen bilateral cooperation on promoting intercultural dialogue and she also reiterated the support of Lisbon authorities for facilitating the Romanians’ integration in the host country.
