Number of tourist arrivals up 4.9 pc in January-April

The number of arrivals and overnight stays in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions advanced by 4.9 percent and 8.8 percent respectively over January-April 2014, compared to the same period of 2013 according to provisional data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Monday. There were 1.981 million of arrivals and 3.94 million overnight stays in Romania’s tourist reception structures over the aforementioned 4-month period.
Romanian tourists accounted for 77.5 percent of the arrivals, and foreigners for 22.5 percent; the figures are near the last year ones.
As regards the foreign tourists, 79.3 percent came from European countries, and among these, 85 percent were from European Union countries. Arrivals in hotels accounted for 75 percent of the overall tourist reception structures with accommodation facilities. The number of arrivals in hotels was 5.5 percent higher than over January-April 2013.
Romanian tourists booked 77.7 of the overnight stays. Among foreigners, 77.6 percent were European, and 83.7 of the Europeans came from the European Union.
The average stay was two days both for Romanian and foreign tourists.
According to Austria’s Tourism Office, about 140,000 Romanian tourists travelled to Austria between November 2013 and April 2014, as the number of accommodations exceeded half a million. The Austrian destinations preferred by Romanians during the winter season are Vienna, Tirol and Salzburg land. The Romanian tourists who go to Austria choose this country during the winter season (64.5 percent of them), are 36 years on average and spend a third more than the average figures.
