Government rewards Romanian fencing champions

The national women’s epee team, European champion, and the men’s sabre team received prizes on Wednesday from the Government, exceeding the total sum of RON 300,000, and on the same occasion the president of the Romanian Fencing Federation, Mihai Covaliu gave PM Victor Ponta an epee as a gift. The prizes were handed down by the head of the Government, who said that he had made repetitions previously, in the elevator, so he does not mistake sword for epee. The winning fencers and their coaches were rewarded, depending on performance, with sums between RON 700 and RON 19,000. The Romanian women’s epee team, comprising Ana Maria Branza, Simona Pop, Simona Gherman and Maria Udrea won the gold Thursday at the European Fencing Championships in Strasbourg
