Flag Day celebrated in Bucharest

Prime Minister Victor Ponta, Minister of National Defence, Mircea Dusa, Minister of Interior, Gabriel Oprea, Bucharest Prefect, Paul Nicolae Petrovan, alongside other officials, officers and war veterans on Thursday celebrate the National Day Flag in the Tricolor Square in the Romanian capital. The Flag was raised on the mast, while soprano Carla Musat, accompanied by the 30th Guard and Protocol Regiment ‘Mihai Viteazul’, were interpreting the national anthem. The National Flag day was also marked by the singing of patriotic songs, the march of the 30th Guard and Protocol Regiment ‘Mihai Viteazul’ and a weapon skills demonstration. The National Flag Day was proclaimed through Law 96/1998 and is celebrated each year on June 26.
President Traian Basescu delivered a message on the occasion of the National Flag Day, stating that the Romanians must revere and honor the Romanian Tricolor.  The head of the state shows that the National Flag is ‘a symbol of the Romanian people’s battle for freedom, reminding us the duty falling on us to defend the unity, security and independence of Romania and to serve our homeland with devotion.’ ‘Our participation in various events dedicated to the National Flag Day is an opportunity for me to tell all Romanians that they must revere and honor the Romanian Tricolor,’ President Basescu concludes.
The National Flag Day is in the first place a moment devoted to those who, over the Romanian State history, proved honour, courage and patriotism, bearing in their hearts the tree colours representing us all – blue, yellow and red, Prime Minister Ponta  also wrote on his Facebook page. ‘The tricolour flag is the symbol uniting us in the pride of being Romanians and represents our country worldwide. It is a supporting point bringing to mind that Romania is grateful for all sacrifices of those fighting for it, for the victories of our sportspeople, for the performances of our Olympiad winners and for all the common or individual achievements of Romanians (…) ,’ Ponta said.
