Eleven Romanian short films at Curtas Vila do Conde 2014 festival

Eleven Romanian productions participate in the Curtas Vila do Conde (Portugal) short films international festival this year, in the main competition and the Off Side and European Panorama sections. The Romanian Cultural Institute’s website displays a long list of Romanian competitors, including Corneliu Porumboiu, Szabolcs Fekete, Cristian Pascariu, Mihaela Popescu, Mihai Sofronea, Sabin Dorohoi, Andrei Sopon, Igor Cobileanski, Radu Jude, Salla Tykka, and Marius Rosu. Although they are not grouped in a distinct section, this represents a fair acknowledgement of the Romanian cinematography. The Romanian presence at the festival in Portugal follows the success of the Colivia (The Bird Cage) short film by Adrian Sitaru, winner of the City of Vila do Conde Grand Prize at the 2010 edition, and of Anca-Miruna Lazarescu’s Apele Tac (Waters are Silent), which got the RTP2 Onda Curta and Public’s prizes in 2011.
This is the 22nd edition of the festival, held between July 5 and 13. Romanian director Paul Negoescu will be a member of the jury. He is also a screenwriter and a professor of the film directing department of the National University of Theatre and Film I.L. Caragiale of Bucharest, a member of the European Film Academy; he has already been in the juries of several international film festivals in Rome, Cluj-Napoca (central Romania), and Brest (France).
