DNA places sequester on Mircea Basescu’s assets

Mircea Basescu was taken from detention to the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) on Tuesday, in order for the prosecutors to present him the result of the technical-forensic assessment conducted on the video recordings included in his case and to inform him that sequester has been placed on his assets, up to the value of EUR 600,000, judicial sources quoted by Mediafax inform. The aforementioned sources stated that the anticorruption prosecutors are performing new procedural acts in the case in which President Traian Basescu’s brother is investigated for influence peddling.

Judicial Inspection: Bercea’s statements about Kovesi and Stanciu, baseless
The Superior Magistracy Council’s (CSM) Judicial Inspection concluded that the statements made by Sandu Anghel, also known as Bercea Mondial, in regard to alleged acts of corruption made by High Court President Livia Stanciu and DNA President Codruta Kovesi are baseless and have seriously affected the independence and the impartiality of the judiciary.
The members of the Judicial Inspection have issued a conclusion that defends the independence of the judiciary and have compiled a report that will be analyzed tomorrow within the CSM.
