Voiculescu remains under judicial control

The judicial control measure imposed by anticorruption prosecutors on Dan Voiculescu, founding chairman of the Conservative Party (PC) for blackmail charges will be maintained, as the Bucharest Court rejected his request for it to be lifted on Thursday, Mediafax reports. The court decision is not final and can be challenged with the Bucharest Court of Appeals within no more than 48 hours. Tuesday, the Bucharest Court tried Dan Voiculescu’s appeal against the judicial control measure in the case in which he is being investigated for allegedly blackmailing, either directly or through middle-men, three businesspeople, one of whom concluded advertisement contracts worth EUR 900,000 with his press trusts. Voiculescu is involved in two other trials regarding the privatization of the Food Research Institute and blackmailing RCS&RDS administrator Ioan Bendei, respectively.
