Businessman Viorel Catarama announced on Tuesday his intention of running in the presidential elections as an independent under the slogan ‘Free Romanians will bring political mafia on its knees,’ and citing changing the Constitution as his main objective. According to the businessman, the Fundamental Law should be amended so as to prohibit political appointments in the administration, and allow the citizens to vote for the directors of DNA, the Police Department, and the Prosecutor’s Office. “Amending the Constitution will force political parties and the Parliament to reform from the ground up, making it possible for the minimum wage to reach EUR 500 four years from now; thus, the over three million Romanians working abroad today will be able to come home and work here,” Catarama explained.
