Mircea Basescu’s request to be released from remand, to be tried by the Constanta Tribunal

Mircea Basescu’s request to be released from remand will be tried by the Constanta Tribunal, after the Bucharest Tribunal declined its competence in favor of this court, at the request of the president brother’s lawyer and of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA). Mircea Basescu was brought yesterday from the arrest of the Bucharest Police to the Bucharest Tribunal, which was due to take into consideration his request to revoke the remand measure, registered in court on July 9, before he was formally indicted. The lawyer of Mircea Basescu, Nelu Tasca, and anticorruption prosecutors demanded the declining of the case to the Constanta Tribunal, because this court will try the case in which the president’s brother was charged with influence peddling.
