Nicusor Constantinescu wants to stay in the US until October 1

Constanta County Council Chairman Nicusor Constantinescu is asking the Bucharest Court to extend his stay in the US until October 1. The request will be analyzed and a ruling will be issued on July 23.
Nicusor Constantinescu’s lawyers sent the request to the court by fax on Wednesday and on Thursday the Bucharest Court decided that the request will be analyzed by judges on July 23.
In another case, the Bucharest Court of Appeals will rule on July 18 on the appeal filed by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) against a Bucharest Court decision to lift the judicial control placed on the Constanta County Council Chairman in one of the cases in which he is charged with corruption.
In this case, the Bucharest Court rejected on June 10 the DNA request to maintain the preventive judicial control measure on Nicusor Constantinescu. The decision was attacked by prosecutors at the Bucharest Court of Appeals. The appeal was postponed several times after the court asked that the original medical documents concerning Nicusor Constantinescu’s state of health should be presented.
Nicusor Constantinescu was placed on the international wanted list following a decision taken by the Bucharest Court on July 7. The Court also decided to issue a European arrest warrant on his name.
