First 100 rural area school minibuses handed over to mayors

Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Wednesday handed over the keys to the first assigned 100 school minibuses to the mayors of the localities included in the relevant program run by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration together with the Ministry of National Education, according to Agerpres. “We did it and I want to be very clear about this, the minibuses weren’t assigned by political criteria but all the requests were indiscriminately met: 1,250 of 2,800 applying communities that we’ll manage to cover this year. I want nothing else but make sure that the children get safe and sound to school and back home,’ the Premier said at the Government Palace. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development Liviu Dragnea explained in turn that in the second phase of the project 659 school buses worth a total of 78 million lei will be acquired. In the first phase of the project running as of July 23, 600 mayors’ offices from several counties will each receive a school minibus with a capacity of 16 +1 seats to shuttle students from rural areas, shows data provided by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration. Localities in the counties of Alba, Arad, Arges, Bacau, Bihor, Botosani, Bistrita-Nasaud and Brasov are among the beneficiaries.
