Monica Macovei said on Wednesday that Romania is ready for an independent candidate

PDL MEP Monica Macovei announced on Wednesday that she will run in the presidential elections as independent candidate, stressing the fact that she wants to improve the Romanians’ living standards, and to bring changes to the education, healthcare and judiciary system. As far as the upcoming election campaign is concerned, Macovei said she will rely on the volunteers’ support and the small donations made by the people who endorse her candidacy.

President Traian Basescu declared he will not endorse Monica Macovei if she runs as independent candidate in the Nov. presidential elections, because on the one hand he committed to supporting the candidate of the People’s Movement Party (PMP), Cristian Diaconescu and on the other hand because Monica Macovei “was dishonest” with the head of stat
