US Charge d’Affairs receives MAI honorary plaque

Deputy Prime Minister Gabriel Oprea on Monday granted United States of America Charge d’Affairs in Romania Dean Thompson the honorary plaque of the Interior Ministry (MAI).

According to a press release remitted to AGERPRES on Monday, during the ceremony held at the Interior Ministry headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Oprea underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between the relevant institutions of Romania and the US in defending the values of democracy.

‘Mr Dean Thompson, you begin your mandate in a sensitive period from a geopolitical point of view, as the regional situation is constantly changing. In this complex framework, our duty is to defend the fundamental values of democracy, common values that grounded our cooperation so far,’ Oprea pointed out.

At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister for national security assured the US Charge d’Affairs of the entire support of the MAI leadership for the promotion of the policies for Romania’s national security strengthening.

‘The US official mentioned the need to continue the cooperation between the security and law enforcement structures of the two countries, with the same professionalism and dedication, for guaranteeing the citizens’ safety in the spirit of the common values and of observing the rule of law,’ the release shows.

National Defence Minister Mircea Dusa, US Embassy counselors and MAI leadership representatives attended the event.
