Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, to be officially inaugurated at the end of August

The Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, to link Romania with the Republic of Moldova, will officially be inaugurated at the end of August this year, following the first gas exchanges to be operated in early September, according to a Department for Energy release remitted to Agerpres.

Representatives of Transgaz (Romania) and Vestmoldtransgaz (the Republic of Moldova), in the presence of Romania’s and the Republic of Moldova’s government officials, signed the operation agreement for the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, at the Department for Energy headquarters on Thursday.

‘Romania practically concludes today an important energy infrastructure project completed in a record time and with an investment under the one provided in the initially planned budget (about 26 million euros). I thank all those involved (ANRM, Transgaz, the constructors, the European Commission) in concluding the works on this important interconnection project that will be officially inaugurated at the end of August,’ Minister Delegate for Energy Razvan Nicolescu said.

The conclusion in the coming days of the procedures of capacity allotment and the signing of some supply contracts between the operators in the two countries create the conditions for the first natural gas exchanges between Romania and the Republic of Moldova to take place in the beginning of September, the release also shows.
