Cristian Diaconescu to run for President as independent candidate, Udrea ready to run on behalf of PMP

Cristian Diaconescu announced in a press conference on Monday he will run in the upcoming presidential elections as independent candidate, and under these conditions, he will no longer be a member of the People’s Movement Party (PMP).

Diaconescu pointed out he will remain chairman of the People’s Movement Foundation, which he has founded.

The head of the People’s Movement Party (PMP), Elena Udrea, has stated on Monday that she regrets Cristian Diaconescu’s departure from the party, adding, however, that he was only proposed, not voted by the leadership of the party to enter the electoral race.

‘The debate in the Directoral College scheduled for tomorrow was necessary, statutory, as well as the internal competition’, said Elena Udrea.

She said she is ready to take on the candidacy to the presidential elections, as the chairwoman of the PMP, as she is convinced she could defeat social-democrat candidate Victor Ponta.
