FM Corlatean: Romania’s role is praised by our European, Euro-Atlantic partners

Romania’s Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean said on Tuesday that as regards the situation in the eastern region and the latest developments in Ukraine, Romania’s role, as a EU and NATO member state, is praised by its European and Euro-Atlantic partners.

‘We are involved in this matter and together with our European and Euro-Atlantic partners and allies, we always contributed effectively to the decision-making process, including as regards the sanctions against the Russian Federation for the illegal annexation of Crimea and its actions to destabilize eastern Ukraine. We coordinate constantly with our European partners, with the United States and we contribute to the decision-making process. Romania’s role is extremely clear, it’s praised by our European partners, the U.S. and the principles that guide us are very clear,’ Titus Corlatean said at the end of the Government sitting.

The foreign minister said the developments in the eastern region are a priority of the Government and concerning this matter, Romania is active and ‘very well coordinated with the European, Euro-Atlantic partners.’

‘We are the ones who contributed, alongside others, to what we have decided. A significant part of certain decisions taken in recent months is due to Romania and the Romanian Government,’ Minister Corlatean argued.

At the same time, the head of Romanian diplomacy said the position of Bucharest as regards the developments in Ukraine is ‘extremely clear’, namely that in international relations ‘the fundamental principles of international law, territorial integrity, sovereignty of states’ must be fully respected
