Szilagyi Zsolt: For first time in history, Hungarian community will have two presidential candidates

Vice Chairman of the Hungarian People’s Party of Transylvania (PPMT), Szilagyi Zsolt on Tuesday in Oradea (northwestern Romania) launched his candidacy for the November presidential elections, declaring that it’s for the first time in history when the Hungarian community will have two candidates in the race for Romania’s Presidency, which means it will have more opportunities to make its voice heard.

When asked the reason for which a Hungarian candidate joins this race, in fact two candidates of Hungarian ethnicity, Szilagyi Zsolt said ‘it’s an excellent opportunity to communicate, hold dialogue with the Romanian society.’

‘We want to be integrated in the Romanian society, the Romanian politics. We want to join this race because we see it as a chance for dialogue, to dismantle the taboos and fears related to us, we see a chance to present our program for Romania’s modernization, according to viable and functional models applied in the West, but still refused in Romania, unfortunately,’ he said.

The PPMT vice president said that two candidates stand the same chance as one Hungarian candidate, but they stand more chance to make their voice heard. On the other hand, there are many Hungarians disappointed with the poor performance of the current Government.
