Vice PM Dragnea hands out 20 financing contracts under local development programme

Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration Liviu Dragnea handed out financing contracts worth roughly 6 million lei on Thursday, under the National Programme for Local Development (PNDL) to 20 mayors or deputy mayors of Galati County (southeastern Romania) communes.

The projects concern the rehabilitation of local and rural roads.

Dragnea also handed a financing contract worth 3.8 million lei to Marius Stan, mayor of Galati, the county seat, for the overhaul of several district heating units in the city, to increase the efficiency of heat distribution.

According to the minister, by the end of this year the Ministry of Regional Development is to complete approximately 2,000 projects financed through PNDL and other programmes.

After the contract hand out ceremony, Dragnea asked the elected local officials to set up strict schedules for the road rehabilitation, and to demand quality works.

Within this context, the head of local administrations mentioned that when he took over the ministry, roughly 4,000 work sites were incomplete to various degrees, and their completion according to priorities is a clear objective.

He also announced that on this autumn’s budget review, probably at end-September, his ministry would financially support other local projects, too.
