PM Ponta attends Ro-Ro vessel inauguration at Daewoo Mangalia shipyard

Prime Minister Victor Ponta, accompanied by Economy Minister Constantin Nita and Transport Minister Ioan Rus, on Tuesday visited the shipyard of Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries (DMHI, southeast Romania) to attend the inauguration event of the Ro-Ro Hoegh Jeddah vessel.

Victor Ponta expressed his enthusiasm for the performance obtained by naval companies in Mangalia and the success of the venture forged several years ago between the Romanian State and the South Korean company Daewoo, which led to this successful partnership.

‘The Government is grateful and thanks any company that creates jobs in Romania and pays their taxes on time. Here at Mangalia, at the DMHI shipyard, I have to thank 7,000 times because this industrial platform provides 7,000 jobs and pays taxes on time,’ Victor Ponta said.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister gave assurance that the Romanian Government will support the company’s development, both in terms of infrastructure and financial terms.

The Ro-Ro Hoegh Jeddah vessel has a capacity of 6,500 cars, is equipped with 12 bridges and it’s the largest ship of this kind ever built in Europe.The ship-owner is the Norwegian company Hoegh Autoliners.
