First edition of Fest pe Lipscani – ‘Horatiu Malaele’, to start on Friday

A new outdoor theatre festival, Fest pe Lipscani, announces its opening edition, named after the great actor Horatiu Malaele, and starting today. At 19:00, the legendary street Lipscani will be overtaken by the most famous characters of Horatiu Malaele’s work, who will charm the audience in a scenery that recreates the images of the performance A valley of flower scent and buzzing bees. The outdoor scenery was created by Tudor Prodan, and the opening street performance of the festival is directed by Eugen Gyemant and Gabriela Dumitru. The opening show will pe followed by a performance of The Bridge, an adaptation of the theatre play Suiciders’ Bridge by Paul Ioachim, directed by Horatiu Malaele. The well-known actor will be joined on stage by George Ivascu and Meda Victor.
The theatre festival Fest pe Lipscani is scheduled during September 12 – 21 and is organized by the theatre company „Teatrul de pe Lipscani”. The first edition of the festival is dedicated to the anniversary of Horatiu Malaele’s 40 years on stage. Therefore, the cultural event will feature an innovative and unique theatre marathon of ten days and twelve performances that will all feature the great Romanian artist, either as an actor, or as a director. All performances featured in the festival will be hosted by the Grand Hall of the Lipscani Theatre.
The theatre company „Teatrul de pe Lipscani” is delighted to celebrate Horatiu Malaele’s 40th artistic anniversary, as, for 40 years, the unforgettable face of the great actor had brought joy to tens of hundreds of viewers, several generations of theatre goers. The press release playfully refers to some of Malaele’s most noted works, such as A valley of flower scent and buzzing bees, The Clown, Stories of the Moon and Stars, The Bridge, The Woman Who Lost Her Suspenders, The Government Inspector, Happy Funerals, The Letter, The Lesson, The Dinner Game. Some of these performances will be enjoyed as part of the  festival, as well as Horatiu Malaele’s debut as a film director, The Mute Wedding.
