PSD: We reached no decision regarding dismissal

Although the duel of antagonizing statements among the Cotroceni and Victoria Palaces is increasingly intense during this pre-electoral period, the Social Democrat Party (PSD) shows increasing hesitation regarding the opportunity of launching a new campaign aiming the President Traian Basescu’s dismissal.
The topic of another attempt to dismiss President Traian Basescu was once again brought into the headlight of public discussion last Monday, when the Head of the Senate, PLR leader Calin Popescu Tariceanu announced that he would begin presenting a new initiative of dismissal during a meeting with leaders of Parliamentary groups within the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
After PSD Executive President Liviu Dragnea’s statement of Friday, in Alba Iulia, that, during Congress, “PSD discussed serious projects, not adventures”, on Saturday evening, PM Victor Ponta also displayed an increasingly cautious and reserved attitude, consistent with that of his party, regarding this topic.
Dragnea expressed perplexity as to why PSD would support the President’s dismissal and added rhetorically asked whether, by dismissal, PSD wouldn’t do other than help Traian Basescu “freely roam the fields of our country” during the electoral campaign.
“There was no official discussion within PSD regarding this issue and we fail to see why we would support this initiative. Why do we need this dismissal? Suddenly, we want to help Basescu, perhaps, so that he would freely roam the fields of our country during the electoral campaign?”, Dragnea leashed out after the PSD Congress.
He went on by pointing out that serious projects, and not “adventures”, were discussed at the Congress.
“Here we had other discussions, serious discussions about serious projects, about Romania’s future, not about adventures”, Dragnea declared, as quoted by Mediafax.
Ponta: We want to calculate dismissal as we would calculate a chess move
During an intervention by phone call at the TV show Q & A, hosted by Antena 3, Ponta declared that he did not want to act upon Traian Basescu’s strategy and to enter a “dirty area” the President uses better than anybody else.
As for Traian Basescu’s eventual dismissal from his position as President, Victor Ponta declared that this should be preceded by an analysis, so that “we would not make the same mistake twice and succeed this time.” “We want to calculate this dismissal as we would calculate a chess move”, Victor Ponta pointed out, adding that PSD should not foresee the initial move, but also the three or four following moves on this topic”.
“The most important thing is that we prevent Traian Basescu’s third mandate, by one of the politicians Traian Basescu supports, whether it’s Elena Udrea, Monica Macovei or Klaus Iohannis, ” Victor Ponta concluded.
