PNL’s Iohannis: I believe Basescu will endorse me in the presidential runoff.
The Christian Liberal Alliance (ACL; of the National Liberal Party – PNL, and the Democratic Liberal Party – PDL) has launched the National Pact for stability and democracy, open for signing by all citizens who want “a Romania dominated by the rule of law”.
The pact was initiated by PNL chairman, Klaus Iohannis, and launched on Monday, on the occasion of the International Day of Democracy. “The www.pactuldestabilitate.ro website wants to become the meeting point for all those who believe it is now time we change the rules of the game. Defend your right to live in an authentic democratic society and sign in support of the National Pact for stability and democracy, so that the political class finally understands the importance of rule of law principles and of fair electoral competition, in the interest of Romanians”, according to a ACL press release.
National leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Klaus Iohannis said Monday evening that he is convinced President Traian Basescu will endorse him in the presidential runoff as Basescu is a Right politician. “I believe he will endorse me in the runoff. I cannot see why not. Irrespective of what Traian Basescu might say, I do not believe anyone suspects him of being a Left politician; he is clearly a Right politician, and so I find his endorsement of a Right presidential candidate to come naturally”, Iohannis told TVR 1 public broadcaster in reply to a question whether he believes Basescu will endorse him in the second round of this November’s presidential election. Iohannis also said he is not afraid of any of the presidential candidates.
National leader of the PNL also said that he being labelled Basescu’s disciple is an attempt by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) to put him in a box. “I am neither Traian Basescu’s disciple, not even his heir, the same as I am not against Traian Basescu. I am without Traian Basescu and that’s that”, said Iohannis. He also said Traian Basescu is a thing of the past.
Iohannis presented Anti-corruption Directorate arguments
for complaint against Local Officials Ordinance
Chairman of the National Liberal Party Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday, upon leaving the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA), that he presented the DNA prosecutors the arguments for his complaint about the Ordinance on the migration of local officials. ‘I gave the arguments for my complaint, I reiterated the reasons for the complaint and the procedure was thus fulfilled,’ said Klaus Iohannis. On September 9 Klaus Iohannis filed with DNA a criminal complaint against Deputy Prime Minister Liviu Dragnea, whom he accuses of abuse of office in connection with the release of the Ordinance on the political migration of local officials.
