Companies from Austria invest 10.9 bn euros in Romania

Austrian companies’ investments in Romania total 10.9 billion euros and represent 18.5% of the total foreign direct investments made in Romania, Rudolf Lukavsky, commercial advisor with Austria’s Embassy in Bucharest, told a Tuesday’s relevant conference.
‘Over 1,000 Austrian investors are active in Romania, through 6,794 Austrian-owned companies, totalling over 100,000 employees, taking into account the jobs created directly,’ said Lukavsky.
He mentioned that the companies on Austrian capital are present in a wide span of business activities, ranging from resources to industry, agriculture, financial services and insurance, wood industry, automotive industry, oil and gas sector.
According to the Austrian official, Romania is attractive for the investors in Austria due to the size of the market – the largest in the region, human capital, cultural proximity, prospects and multitude of projects and opportunities. Lukavsky showed that, despite the difficult economic conditions after 2009, Austrian companies are continuing to invest in Romania and are interested and concerned that Romania be politically stable, have better quality and increased transparency of public tenders, as well as effectiveness of tax administration in terms of the unregistered economy, absorption of EU funds and access to skilled workforce.
