Azerbaijan’s state-owned oil company SOCAR plans to open at least 10 petrol stations in the Romanian market next year, Romania SOCAR CEO Hamza Karimov announced on Thursday.
‘The company will inaugurate another two stations this year in Sibiu and Bistrita respectively’, Karimov told a conference organised to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Azeri state’s signing the first oil-drilling contract in collaboration with several international companies.
SOCAR is currently operating 30 petrol stations in Romania.
Since 2011 till now, the Azeri company has created 400 jobs and has conducted more than 50 million euros in investments in Romania. Thursday’s anniversary marks 20 years since the signing of ‘The Contract of the Century’ between SOCAR and the world’s biggest oil companies aimed at jointly exploiting the oil and gas deposits in the Azeri sector of the Caspian Sea. The contract signing marked the beginning of the oil and gas delivery to Europe and other regions.
