In the first half of this yearRomania exported agrofoodproducts worth a total of EUR2.03 bln, up by almost 10 percent (EUR 180.9 M) comparedto the same period last year, whileits imports totaled EUR 2.32 blnand surpassed by 1.1 per cent(EUR 25.7 M) the value registeredin H1 of 2013, the data presentedby the Ministry ofAgriculture and RuralDevelopment (MADR) shows.The main product exportedduring the aforementioned periodwas maize (1,074,400 tons),the quantity being almost 66 percent higher compared to the sameperiod last year. The proceedswere higher by EUR 85.2 M,reaching EUR 328.6 M. Thehigher export volumes also generatedextra revenues in the case ofcigarettes (+83.6 million Euros),live sheep and goats (+22.9 M),nuts (+19.9 M), bakery and confectionaryproducts (+8.4 M).When it comes to topimports, pork and processed foodproducts were in the lead with avalue of EUR 118.8 M for66,000 tons and EUR 81.7 M for23,700 tons respectively.The European Union remainsthe main partner for Romania’sagricultural trade, with a share of64.6 per cent in exports and 80.7per cent share in imports.In 2013, for the first time inthe past 20 years, Romania managedto register a surplus of overEUR 300 M in agrofood trade,compared to a deficit of almostEUR 800 M in 2012.
