A number of 350 players of 30 countriesare set to take part in the European DartsChampionship, hosted by theIntercontinental Hotel in downtownBucharest, between September 23-27, reportsAgerpres. Dragos Dumitrescu, chairman ofthe Romanian Darts Federation has shown,on Monday, during a press conference, thatthere will be organised both men and womensingles and doubles contests and also a teamevent. “We have 12 affiliated clubs and twomore that are in process of affilliation. Wehope to make good publicity for this sport.The strongest teams are those of England andthe Netherlands, the main contenders for thetitles”, said Dumitrescu.Norwegian Roy Price, the representative ofthe World Darts Federation and the managerof the competition has stated: “Like manyboys, I started out with football and only laterI switched to darts. I’m glad we will have aninteresting competition in Bucharest”.Vlad Popa, the vice-chairman of theRomanian Darts Federation has said, in histurn: “The Federation was formed in 2008.We have made this competition using ourown strength, and we’re speaking of 99 percent volunteers among out collaborators. Iwant to say that in the Netherlands this sportis introduced into schools, helping studentslearn arithmetic in order to keep the score. It’snot an expensive sport, with 100 euro youmay buy yourself a full game set”.Oana Barsan, three-time national championand reigning champion, said on the occasion:“I’ve been practicing the sport for fiveyears, We hope to have a good performance atthe European Championship”.The competition in Bucharest will see theparticipation of internationally renownedplayers who have confirmed their attendance:Trina Gulliver, nine-time world champion,Lisa Ashton, world champion in 2014, andScott Waites, world champion in 2014.
