The Nutcracker – ballet on ice at the Palace Hall

Among the performers of this show, one may notice famous, multiple medal-winning skaters, Olympic Champion Evgeny Plushenko and European Champion Olga Ivanovna.

In order to celebrate 175 years since Tchaikovsky’s birthday, the City of Saint Petersburg has appointed as Ambassador the only proffesional ice skating ballet company of the world to attend a world tour in 2014 with the masterpiece „The Nutcracker”, a press release announces. This fascinating production, initially planned as a sole performance destined to celebrate 300 years since the first documented mention of Saint Petersburg, in 2003, never ceased to be invited again and again all over the world, enjoying tremendous success ever since.
Perhaps it is because the libretto was chosen when Konstantin Boyarsky founded the ice skating ballet company in 1967, or perhaps because the performance is a marvellous combination of classical ballet, artistic skating and acrobatics, fact is though that, throughout over ten years, the performance continued to charm audiences everywhere with its magic, grace and the perfect correlation of elements, just like Tchaikovsky’s work was predestined to this experiment.
Following the recent and impressive success of January achieved by “Swan Lake”, the company St. Petersburg Staatballet on Ice could not omit Bucharest as a leg of the tour, therefore, on December 6, the stage of the Palace Hall will become a skating rink again and 80 artists, wearing 800 costumes) will fly in beautiful skating figures over 300 kg of natural ice, providing its audience of all ages the most beautiful gift: the fascination of the “Nutcracker”.
Among the lead performers, there are world famous, multiple medal winning skaters such as Olympic Champion Evgeny Plushenko or European Champion Olga Ivanovna, who, conducted by the great choreographer Konstantin Rassadin, continue the tradition of a powerful and expressive dance style once imposed at the Mariinsky Theatre by Rudolph Nureyev, Mikhail Barishnikov or Natalya Dudinskaya.
