Country’s energy consumption to grow by 40 pc by 2020

The national consumption of primary energy will reach 31.9 million tons of oil equivalent (toe) in 2020, up by 40.5 per cent compared to 2010, the national energy efficiency action plan, a document published on the Energy Department’s website, shows. In 2010 the country’s end consumption of energy stood at 22.7 million toe. In 2016 the consumption will reach 27 million toe, according to the document.
Industry will have the biggest share, being set to consume 9.7 million toe in 2020. The residential sector will be second with a consumption of 9.5 million toe, followed by transport and communications (8 million toe), services (3 million toe), agriculture (0.8 million toe) and constructions (0.7 million toe).
Romania has committed itself to lowering its end energy consumption to 30.32 million toe in 2020, so that our country will have to save 1.64 million toe during this period, the document adds.
The capacity to lower the end consumption of energy stands at 13 per cent in the case of industry, 41.5 per cent in the residential sector (of which 60 per cent in the lighting area), 31.5 per cent in transports and 14 per cent in services.
