Microsoft file: Justice Minister receives request to prosecute 9 ex-ministers

The Prosecutor General of Romania, Tiberiu Nitu, has sent the Minister of Justice, Robert Cazanciuc, the report drafted by the National Anti-corruption Department asking for the prosecution of Ecaterina Andronescu, Serban Mihailescu, Dan Nica, Valerian Vreme, Adriana Ticau, Gabriel Sandu, Daniel Funeriu, Alexanadru Athanasiu and Mihai Tanasescu who, during their respective terms, allegedly committed offences of corruption in connection with Microsoft licences.
The High Court Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday that Prosecutor General Tiberiu Nitu, under article 109, paragraph 2 of the Constitution, articles 12 and 19 of Law 115/1999 and Decision of the Constitutional Court No. 270/10 March 2008, had sent to the minister of Justice the report prepared by the National Anti-corruption Department asking for the prosecution of Senator Ecaterina Andronescu – for abuse of office, bribe taking, influence peddling and money laundering, MP Valerian Vreme – for abuse of office, Senator Petru Serban Mihailescu   – instigation to abuse of office, influence peddling and money laundering.
Prosecutor General Tiberiu Nitu has also sent to the European Parliament DNA’s report asking for clearance to prosecute MEP Dan Nica, suspected of abuse of office, bribe taking, influence peddling and money laundering.
The Prosecutor General of the High Court Prosecutor’s Office also sent to President Traian Basescu DNA’ report asking for the prosecution of Adriana Ticau, ex-Minister of Communications and Information Technology – for abuse of office, bribe taking, influence peddling and money laundering, Gabriel Sandu, ex-Minister of Communications and Information Society – for abuse of office, bribe taking , influence peddling and money laundering, Gabriel Funeriu, ex-Minister of Education and Research – for abuse of office, bribe taking, influence peddling and money laundering, Mihai Nicolae Tanasescu – ex-Minister of Public Finance – for abuse of office, bribe taking, influence peddling and money laundering.
