Bronze medal for Romania at FIDE World Youth Chess Championships Durban 2014Romania’s Mihnea Costachi has won the bronze medal at FIDE World Youth Chess Championships Durban 2014 in South Africa. FIDE master Costachi won 8.5 points of 11 after 6 wins and 5 draws. The new world champion in the under-14 category is China’s Liu Yan, with 9.5 points, while the vice champion is Iranian Amin Tabatabaei, also with 8.5 points. The Romanian Chess Federation praises Costachi for his coolness under pressure and an understanding of the game worthy of a senior. After scoring 5.5 points out of 7 at the European Youth U18 Team Chess Championship 2014 this July, Costachi had his hard work, passion and talent rewarded by a world medal, the federation says on its website.
