Bucharest-Raiffeisen Bank International Marathon: 8,000 runners from 50 countries

Over 8,000 runners from 50 countries will take part in the 7th edition of  the Raiffeisen Bank Bucharest International Marathon (RBBIM), scheduled for Sunday, reports Agerpres. This year’s edition of the Raiffeisen Bank Bucharest International Marathon is a special one, so the medal is also very special – it is dedicated to Constantina Dita (marathon Olympic Champion), who, during RBBIM, will officially retire from the competitive athletics.. A resident of the United States of America for 20 years, Dita, an Olympic Champion in the marathon event of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is the national record holder in the 20 km road running, half marathon and marathon categories. The event is to take place in two parts. As such, on Saturday, October 4, the children and juniors races are scheduled to take place, while Sunday will see the adult events take place. Alin Petrache, chairman of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) has mentioned: “The Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee supports such events. We have recently celebrated the centenary of the Olympic movement in our country, and now, behold, another celebration. It is an important event for children, so that they have a good start in life, for parents, who must know the grand importance of sport. Romania is very much appreciated for such competitions”. Florin Florea, Secretary General of the Romanian Athletics Federation has shown: “We have 52 athletes enrolled who will take part in the National Marathon Championship. It’s a good thing that they will race with runners from abroad, and as such their performance will rise. Besides them there are the veteran runners, over 40 years old, that have a separate championship”. Over 500 volunteers were involved in organizing this year’s edition of the Marathon, the organizers showed.
