Farmers can buy plots of land up to 1,000 hectares with 10 pc down payment

All farmers, not just those leasing land, will be able to purchase agricultural plots of land within the limit of 1,000 hectares, with down payment of 10 per cent and guaranteed loans, according to an emergency ordinance adopted on Wednesday by the government.
According to Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin, the modifications brought to the ordinance seek to hike the number of farmers that have access to facilities for the purchase of agricultural land. “The farmers that had the quality of leasers were able to purchase land until they came into possession of a surface of 1,000 hectares, with a down payment of just 10 per cent, with half of the difference to be covered through a guaranteed loan, and the other half through the plot of land. By expanding the basis we give to all farmers, to all those registered in the system of the Agency for Payments and Intervention in Agriculture (APIA) and who benefit from subsidies, the opportunity to be able to access this facility immediately, because there are requests at the level of the Agriculture Ministry, in order to be able to consolidate the farms,” the Agriculture Minister explained.
